We went out today to do some C-day gift shopping.
My wife's family doesn't celebrate C-day, but they bought a small re-usable tree and some decorations. I thought it would be interesting to buy everyone some small gifts so that the bottom of the tree doesn't look so barren.
Today we went out to look for gifts.
We managed to buy gifts for most of the people we want to get things for.
On a whim we decided to go to the newly opened Pacific store in Komtar.
Normally Komtar is nearly deserted. There are not many shops in this mall. Apparently Pacific decided to try and re-vitalize the place and opened up their department store.
The location is very strange. Komtar is a mall. Across the street is another mall, Prangin. Komtar was first, when Prangin opened Komtar quickly became a void. Correct my history if I am wrong Penangites!
Anyway, we spent some time walking through Pacific but didn't find it all that special.
We decided to go and eat. We picked Georgetown White Coffee.
The place was crowded when we went in. They have lots of seating though, so it wasn't an issue to sit down. After looking over the menu I had a question about White Coffee versus Heritage White Coffee. We picked out what we wanted to eat as well.
It took a bit to get a waiter. Once we had one Siew asked him about the coffee. He didn't know. I said nevermind and ordered the white coffee. Siew had Kopi-O and we ordered food. Siew had Nasi Lemak and I had Rendang Curry Chicken.
The coffee was . . . mediocre. For the price we paid we could have had 2 cups each of the same stuff from a hawker.
The food was horrible. The rice was CRUNCHY. The cucumber bitter. There was a large serving of crunchy, deep-fried fish (small fish to be eaten bone and all, like minnows) and some peanuts.
The place is horribly overstaffed. I counted 20 waters/waitresses! Everything was an organizational nightmare. After finishing we never got a bill so we went up front to pay. There was confusion because their system was down so all items were being written on paper slips to serve as bills.
The queue to pay was long, the staff more interested in chatting and jumping in front of people who are waiting to pay than they were in helping customers.
Anyone going to Komtar I wish to issue you a warning. Do not waste your money or time on Georgetown White Coffee.
