Happenings

Well, I'm writing a short post tonight. I have been neglecting the few people who read this. I apologize!

Things have, of course, been busy. Felix is growing fast! He can now crawl and sit up on his own from his tummy. He is trying to stand already. He is only six and a half months old! He has started eating solid food as well. We fought with him for a long time and then tried controlled crying. Now we get to, mostly, sleep through the night! He also gets tons of attention wherever we go. He always gets lots of compliments and double, triple or quadruple takes!

Siew is doing a great job taking care of him. Today she went to help her friend because her friend just had a baby and the hospital did not teach her how to breast feed. She already has one son who was not breastfed, so she wants to breastfeed her daughter (YAY!) but didn't know what to do. Siew helped her out, so, hopefully she can do things the way she wants.

I have been exercising at least 4 days a week and will continue to do so. I'm not doing a lot, but since I have a break in between classes I started taking a change of clothes with me and have been stretching and doing different exercises. I already know tons of exercises, I just didn't have the "time." I feel better from what I have done so far, but my main goal really is to burn a little fat and get my endurance back. I'm going to need it with Felix!

I also went to Bujinkan on Saturday. It was fun. One guy was annoying, but everyone in the class harassed him for being an idiot. I am too lazy to explain what he was doing. James, the instructor, has not been feeling well recently, I found out, so he asked me to teach something I know for the last half of the class. That was a bit weird, but it was fun as well. It's also good for the class, they learn something different so they are not too "locked" into Bujinkan, which is SUPPOSED to be formless in the end.

I'll try, but make no promises, to update more frequently!

Darn weather

Ok, so I have been exercising more recently. I have time during my breaks to do so. I had planned to go for a long walk today. The weather interfered with that plan. So, I guess today is a rest day. Tomorrow I'll go back to other exercises. I will, however, do some pullups at home tonight.

Exercising is a strange thing. When you do it, you feel better. When you don't, you feel worse, but it's hard to make yourself do it. I like how I feel, but I am too lazy. I am going to change that.

I need to lose body fat. I want to look better, feel better, and more importantly, have better endurance. I am strong, and fast, but I have no stamina. I used to have nearly limitless, or so it seemed, stamina. I want to get that back. If I do not, Felix is going to exhaust me all of the time. I want to set a good example for him. I need to be his role-model for good things, not bad things!

Shock!

Tonight Felix was being fussy, yet again. Siew and I are becoming distraught with him not sleeping. He fusses because he is tired, but also because he does not want to sleep!

So, Siew asked me to look information up online to try and get him to sleep. I said that I had looked it up before, I had, but tried it anyway. This time, because of the search including his age, I found this link that details a few ways to get a baby to sleep.

So we tried the Controlled Crying method.

I put him down, with the lights out, said, "Time to sleep." and left the room. He, of course, cried. I came back in 10 minutes and "sshhh'd" him while touching him a little. Did that again in 10 more minutes. He stopped crying on that visit, and was asleep within a few minutes.

Siew and I were excited and shocked! It WORKED! So, now, we're going to try this method tomorrow as well. If this works, it is a miracle that we have been needing!

Apparently I'm a bad driver. . .

I had a bad experience driving home tonight. So bad that I want to report it here, by copying the e-mail I have sent to authorities here instead of explaining it all again:

Dear sirs,

I was driving home tonight when I had a rather uncomfortable encounter. First, let me detail the encounter, and then I will ask a question that I hope can be answered.

I was driving home when, around 8:20pm 22 November, 2010, I noticed the driver behind me was getting closer and closer to my car. I was following the speed limit posted on Jalan SS23/43 that clearly stats 50 km/j (50 kilometers per hour). I was in the right hand lane. After he was closing to within a distance of a meter I tapped my brakes to show that he was to close to me. This person then got still closer to me. I started to slow down as this happened as well. It was becoming a dangerous situation. After I slowed enough, he jerked his wheel turning suddenly to the other lane, pulled alongside me and rolled down his window yelling at me. Frustrated, I responded in kind. Then he zoomed on ahead, nearly hitting my car.

I sped up to the posted speed limit, signaled a lane change and changed to the left lane. This same person got in front of me and slowed down to a crawl. Clearly trying to evoke revenge. I followed him until we reached a traffic light, at which point I used my phone to photograph the back of his car for his license plate number. This person then got out of his car, at a traffic signal light, and approached my car.

I got partway out of my car, being uncomfortable getting out of the car at a signal light,. He scolded me saying that I was driving too slowly in the speed lane, and that that was a very dangerous thing to do. That driving like that causes accidents. I replied that this is not a highway, there is no speed lane. I also stated that he should learn some courtesy and polite/safe driving behavior. I believe he might have intended me personal injury, but he did nothing threatening other than approaching me closely. After that, he walked back to his car, took his phone and photographed my license plate, jumped into his car and sped off at very high, dangerous speed.

I am attaching the picture of the back of this person's car to this e-mail. I am distraught at how often I am tail-gated in just this manner, albeit without this threatening display, and see it done to others. I have observed this on the streets and highways. Is this the accepted method? Am I incorrect for observing the speed limits in the city, off of a highway, and being in the right lane?

I hope that this e-mail is reaching the correct people. I apologize if it is not. My wife helped me to get your e-mail addresses, but she is not 100% sure that you are the correct gentlemen to answer my question. If you are not the correct gentlemen to handle this issue, can you please direct me to the people I should contact?

Sincerest regards,

Mark Travers
