Pictures from Siew's phone

Siew said her pictures are better than mine, so I thought I would share them here.

Petronas Towers.

Towers.

More Towers.

You're going to get sick of these towers.

A crazy guy and a beautiful woman.

Crazy guy and Towers.

Towers.

The Towers.

We met this really crazy guy!

He started following us, crazy!

I think the crazy guy fell off this bridge after this picture. There was nothing but a blue spot at the bottom.

A central part of the mall that gives a little perspective of the size, but not complete perspective.

Another view of the same.

When I was sitting on the floor to take pictures through the skylight of Petronas Towers.

Same thing as above.

Fountain/pools outside the KLCC mall.

Builds in the area.

Me trying to make a strange face. It worked apparently. Not at my most handsome here.

Kuala Lumpur

Well, I'm moving to KL.

Siew and I went there by bus on Tuesday. On Wednesday I had an interview at a place that is near KLCC.

That interview was not bad. Actually, they want me to come back to do a demonstration class, with a real class this time!

We spent quite a bit of time after the interview in the KLCC area.

These are the fountains in front of the mall entrance to KLCC.

KLCC itself.

The skybridge and mall-front.

KLCC and one of the fountain sprays (the water is NOT coming close to the top of the building, it is just a perspective thing).

A building beside KLCC.

We played for a bit, taking pictures with our phones because we forgot to bring our real camera. We brought it with us to KL, but then left it at Siew's friend's place!

It was a cloudy day and there was no having proper pictures outdoors with a phone-camera. My phone camera has a flash, but it is not meant for outdoor images like these.

Poor Siew. The lack of lighting makes it hard to see her in these pictures.

Another try.

Siew and I sitting down, facing away from the towers.

The other side of the mall and part of the left tower.

We moved to a bridge and took a few pictures. There was a little more light, but still not enough.

Trying again.

Siew wanted to take my picture, I was being playful and took a picture at the same time.

Some other buildings visible in the distance. I do not know their names.

More Petronas Towers (KLCC).

These pictures were taken from inside of the mall below the towers.

Siew had fun laughing at me. I was trying to take these pictures while sitting on a bench. Then I got an idea!

I thought of sitting on the floor, hooking my feet under the railing, and leaning back to take a picture. I wanted to get the tops of the towers in the picture.

This is a big mall.

A fast-shot of my love.

While we were inside Kinokuniya we were able to get some nice pictures of the buildings around us.

A nice view of the pools, fountains and parks that we had just been in outside.

I tried to get an image of traffic in KL at night while it was raining. I failed miserably.

While we were at Mid-Valley MegaMall we saw one place that has a toilet that has a price. I think you pay them to wipe for you.

moving

Well, I got a job offer from a place in kl that is acceptable.
Now we have to move to kl ASAP.
I'm writing this from my phone so I'm not saying much now.

June 21, 2009

Kuala Lumpur

I have a job offer here in Penang that is going to pay less than I can make elsewhere.

Siew has had nothing but junk offers/job here in Penang.

Talking with her friends, and comparing with other offers, it seems that we can both earn more money for our time, without the same level of bullshit, in Kuala Lumpur.

We have focused our sights on KL as a "land of more opportunity."

I have an interview with a place near KLCC on Wednesday. I hope that it goes well and the pay offer is acceptable.

Siew and I both just want stability right now.

It will cost a lot for us to move to KL. Siew has friends in KL that we can spend time with. She has friends here in Penang she can, and does, spend time with.

For me there isn't as much of an issue of social interaction. I have made a few friends here in Malaysia, apart from those of my wife's friends that I also call friend, but, so far, none that I am very social with. The main one that I am closer to lives in KL already.

Oh, Siew also has a job offer here in Penang. Ironic that we both get offers around the same time we decide that moving is our best option!

I am fairly certain that we can both do a lot better in KL than we are doing in Penang. Additionally, we wouldn't be living with her family.

Staying too close to her family has caused some disagreements from all quarters. Having things be just us again would be nice. If one of Siew's friends decides to share quarters with us, that's different still. We'd be starting a new household that way, instead of joining an existing household. I think that if she does share with us then we can help one another.

As a side note, I know that that same friend will also do her best to force me to learn more Mandarin ;-)

So, it seems, look out Kuala Lumpur, here we come! (probably)

PoweredBicycles *ahem* oh, sorry "Motorcycles"

Imagine if you will that you are stopped at a traffic light.

From behind you you hear a loud noise that sounds like a lawnmower engine coming closer.

Then a small-engine motorcycle comes up from behind you, weaving through the cars to get to the front of the line.

Imagine that you are driving and out of nowhere 5 small-engine motorcycles coming flying around you from all sides, or in a line, or however randomly the drivers feel like.

Imagine the a small-engine motorcycle cuts you off so close you could sneeze and kill the motorcycle rider.

Imagine that these small-engine motorcycles are driven like powered bicycles. They are "protected" by the government because they are not wrapped in a metal shell. So these riders take it for granted that you in a car will watch out for them.

These same riders will yell horribly at you even if they are the ones who hit you. They will demand compensation if they are involved in an accident with a car. No matter who's fault it is!

Imagine that the streets rumble like a swarm of angry-bees with these damnable powered-bicycles they call motorcycles.

Imagine that the drivers of cars have taken to driving their cars much like the method used by motorcyclists.

Courtesy, turn signals, speed limits, one-way roads, traffic regulations, imagine that none of these are followed and there are almost NO police monitoring the situation or doing anything to enforce the rules.

Are you done imagining all of that? Then, I want to say this to you:

"Welcome to Pulau Pinang!"

Happy second 2nd wedding anniversary Siew!

Today is the day that Siew and I celebrate our legal marriage in the United States.

I love you more than anything Siew!

The Beach *****100th post!*****

Today Siew and I were very bored here at home.

Neither of us could decide what to do.

Finally, Siew suggested going to youth park to go hiking up the hill there. I felt lazy to hike and the park would be crowded because today is the last day of school holidays here.

So, I suggested going to the beach to dig for clams.

We got ready and left. When we were only a few meters down the road, Siew's sister called us and asked us to come back so she could go with us. What's funny about that is I had asked Siew if she had asked her sister to go or not before we left. Siew thought that her sister was sleeping and didn't want to disturb her!

When we got to the beach we found that the tides were quite high. This is the first time I have been to the beach when the tides here were so high!

Digging for clams proved to be nearly impossible. Clams tend to be lower in the water than we could comfortably go to dig and still remain somewhat dry.

So, instead, we walked the beach and played in the waves a little. We were not prepared for submersion however, so we did our best not to get too wet.

There were lots of kids at the beach. Apparently they were trying to enjoy their last day of freedom from school!

There was this pretty puppy playing on the beach. She was having fun running around saying hi to people. She ran after the waves once, and then turned tail and ran hard to avoid getting wet. She was very sweet and seemed well-cared for, but no one seemed to be claiming her.

We played with her for some time. Then someone picked her up and was playing very rough with her. Luckily not long after that her real owner came out and claimed her. Apparently she had escaped!

Siew and I walked down the beach until we found where a hotel let out onto the beach, we walked inside and used the facilities there and realized that it would be very easy to abuse their swimming facilities as well. We did not do it, this time anyway.

Next time we go to the beach we'll have to prepare for high and low tides both so we can dig for clams on low-tide, and play in the waves on high-tide!

Anime

I made a list of my anime, including episode counts.

I have about 4108 episodes of anime. Some of these episodes are only a few minutes long, and some are movies, the rest are 24 minutes or so in length.

From the short ones and the movies I can roughly estimate that each episode is roughly 24 minutes still.

When I watch anime I tend to skip the introduction and ending credits. This makes the viewing time about 20 minutes.

20 minutes of 4108 episodes works out to be a lot of anime. If I watch 3 hours a day, EVERYDAY, then it will take me 456 days to finish watching the anime I have.

I'm in Hot Water Now

I burned my hand this morning.

I was trying to add hot water from the hot water pot to my coffee. . . but I was still too sleepy and splashed a lot on my right hand.

Now I have a spot that hurts a lot that goes from the base of my thumb to the start of my wrist.

It is quite red.

Bah, clumsy bastard.

Fall Down, Go Boom

I have a pair of inversion boots. I looked these for years before finally buying a pair.

I sold or gave away almost everything I had before moving to Malaysia but I kept my inversion boots.

I know that it sounds strange, but hanging upside down is really relaxing. Instead of gravity pulling down on your body it pulls up on your body. This stretches your spine out and brings more blood to your brain.

I used to practice headstands, but they put a lot of pressure on your spine. Inversion doesn't put any pressure on your spine.

In the states I had a pullup bar mounted that I would use to hang upside down and to do other exercises. Here in Malaysia I bought a pullup bar that twists to expand in a doorway.

Today I wanted to hang upside down, so I took the bar out, and put it up and did a few pullups, then I went to test the bar before hanging upside down.

BAM!!!!

It came down when I tested it, I fell on my back, punched myself in the face and hurt my left wrist.

Siew heard the noise and came running to check on me. :-)

Luckily I tested it before trying to flip upside down to hang upside down! If not I could have seriously been injured.

I need a more secure pullup bar!

I think that there is some dirt on the rubber pads of this pullup bar and that when I did pullups I didn't tighten the bar again afterwards, so this caused the bar to slip.

I'm going to try it again here in a little bit, but I'll carefully clean the pads and tighten the bar before trying to hang.

I may end up looking like someone punched me in the eye!

Edit:
I just finished hanging upside down without falling down. :-P Later I need to get a more secure method of hanging so I can also do stomach exercises. Nothing better than upside down toe-touches to work your stomach muscles!

It looks as though the heat is crazy here. The humidity is lower. This might be due to the time difference. If I remember I will check again later when I wake up. I will most likely forget.

The other day I took a thermometer from downstairs upstairs and left it here where I normally sit, with the computer turned off. After about an hour I checked the thermometer and discover the temperature to be 35C!

Why is it so damn hot recently?

I asked my wife to call the Prime Minister and have him turn on the National Air Conditioning. . . she said she doesn't have his number to call and ask him! :-(

Hot and sweatly yours!

2 year anniversary

Today is one of Siew and I's 3 anniversaries!

June 3rd marks the day that we had our wedding ceremony.

We also have our legal marriage in the usa and our legal registration with the Malaysian government.

To celebrate we went to Queensbay mall and walked around for a bit before eating lunch.

We ate at Kenny Rogers Roasters.

The chicken was good, the muffin was very fresh because they did not have any prepared and it was tasty but too sweet, the rest was not all that great. But the company was the best part, as always.

After that we bought tickets to see Night at the Museum 2.

Then we walked around for a couple of hours to digest. We had fun looking at some books in a Borders and an electronics store that also has beds and appliances. I do not recall the name.

Night at the Museum 2 as good. Overall, I think it was better than the first movie.

We ran into a few of my former students from ELS there as well. I was a bit nervous about that, not really sure why though.

Then we have a fun adventure. We both forgot where we parked the car and entered the mall!

After a bit of backtracking we managed to find the right place and come home.

I love you Siew. I am really glad you accepted me and are willing to spend your life with me. You are my world and I want to spend more time than we have on this Earth together. I need you always!

Zombies of Malaysia

Ok, so I am not a very dedicated writer. You all knew that already, if anyone reads this that is :-P

I have been wanting to write several different story ideas, but haven't done so yet.

Here is where blogging may be of benefit. I can write sporadically, and simply create a blog for each particular story.

I have started a completely fictional blog about myself, or someone like me, surviving a zombie infestation.

Zombie Survivor

I will try to write each day, even if only a little bit. For how long, I do not know. I may try the same thing out, later, with other story ideas.
